Hake’s to Offer Rare 1970 Topps 4th Series Baseball Wax Box — But What Will It Fetch?

Hake’s Auctions is set to feature a BBCE-authenticated 1970 Topps 4th Series Baseball Wax Box in its upcoming July sale. The 24-pack box is a rare find, and while other series from the 1970 set have appeared in recent years, I think this is the first 4th Series box to hit a major auction since July 2019.

That last one, sold by Mile High Card Company, realized $28,807. Based on the wear on the cardboard, Hake’s box appears to be a different example. And that makes sense; a few certainly survived, as there are also over 60 4th series 1970 Topps baseball wax packs in PSA’s Pop Report

While other 1970 Topps series boxes have sold for significantly more than $28K recently, they’re not from the 4th Series. And while the unopened niche can be tough to predict, many vintage Topps baseball boxes have jumped 3–4x in value since 2019. Heritage, for example, sold a 1972 Topps 5th/6th Series wax box for $11,100 in August 2019 and then another for $38,400 in July 2014.

So $60K+ for this 1970 4th Series box isn’t out of the question.

Happy collecting!
