1955 Topps

If you’re a fan of the 1955 Topps baseball card set, you’re going to enjoy this gem from the hobby’s print era. Originally published in the June 1985 issue of Baseball Cards Magazine, Herman Krabbenhoft’s article takes a deep dive into the quirks, stats, and structure of Topps’ smallest regular-issue set.

The 1955 release packed a lot of punch despite being Topps’ smallest set. Krabbenhoft breaks it all down, including a detailed team-by-team comparison against the 1955 Bowman set. It’s a fantastic resource for collectors, set-builders, and hobby historians alike.

Fun read. 40 years later though, I’d say that the fact that Topps bought out Bowman had more to do with the fact that Jacob Warren Bowman had sold his company a few years earlier to a company that was later acquired by a container company who did not view baseball cards as a core part of their business, than the fact that Topps’ cards were better (although I agree that they are!).
