Team Night in Chicago: The 1990-91 Hoops Bulls Sheet Featuring Michael Jordan

I first learned about the 1990-91 NBA Hoops Team Night sheets thanks to a tweet from Junk Wax Heroes, who shared a slabbed Michael Jordan card labeled 1990 Hoops Team Night with a “sheets-perforated” note on the flip. I had to learn more, and it turns out Beckett’s site has a ton of info.

In summary, these unique 12-card sheets (10k-20k print runs) were handed out at NBA Hoops promotional nights between February and April of 1991, with most NBA teams participating (except the Kings). Attendees at those games received a sheet of perforated NBA Hoops cards spotlighting key players from the home team, though sometimes a few slots were swapped out for ads or coupons. In many markets, additional sheets were distributed through in-store promos.

The Chicago Bulls sheet, easily the most popular, includes a Michael Jordan card, along with teammates like Scottie Pippen and Horace Grant. I pulled the following scan of one from eBay (available for $99.99, but another is listed for just $21.49).

PSA has graded over 700 cards from this set; 470 of them are Jordans. Recent sales of PSA 10 Jordans are hovering around $240. Some collectors have even slabbed panels from the sheet. PWCC, now Fanatics Collect, sold this one for $411 in April 2021.

While these may have been throwaway freebies back in ’91, they’ve aged into something with a lot of collector interest. And I’m sure I’ll write more about them in the future.

Happy collecting!

I’d love to learn how to separate panels as cleanly as that PSA 10. I have some damaged SI for Kids panels that I have considered breaking down. But the handful of times I’ve separated them… it doesn’t turn out well.

Haha. To this day I can’t cut wrapping paper, I’d never try to separate a panel or trim a sheet!
