If you follow me on social media, you know I often share photos of unopened wax pack lots as the “unopened collectible of the day.” I thought I’d do something similar here on the blog today, just with a bit more room than a tweet allows.
In December 2007, Mastro Auctions sold a 1966 Topps Batman Series B (Blue Bat Reverse) unopened wax box of 24 packs for $7,361.
Each five-cent pack had been graded by GAI, with two Mint 9s, eight 8.5s, twelve 8s, and two 7.5s. The colorful display box, originally housing the two dozen packs, was included and described as minimally VG/EX.
At $7,361, that worked out to roughly $306 per pack in 2007, with the box effectively thrown in. Recent single-pack sales in the $600s/$700s show a near doubling since 2007, modest by unopened standards.
