An original Topps Flexichrome artwork used to produce 1961 Topps #307: “Mantle Slams 2 Homers,” is currently listed on eBay for $15,525.

The piece commemorates Mantle’s performance in Game 2 of the 1960 World Series and was part of Topps’ in-house production process. The artwork measures 5 1/2″ x 4 3/8″, mounted on its original pasteboard backing (7 3/4″ x 4 3/4″), with editorial notes referencing “Game #2” and markings for image placement. Oh, and isn’t it funny how the artist referred to Mantle as “Yank Hitter”?

It’s a rare surviving example of early Topps production material—particularly significant given the subject.
While comps are limited, REA has sold other 1961 Topps Flexichromes:
- Larsen Pitches Perfect Game (2017): $1,320
- Richardson is Hero (2013): $830
- Mantle Blasts 565 ft. Home Run (2013): $3,851
Given the subject and scarcity, $15K may not be unreasonable. But at that price, it’s certainly waiting for the right buyer.
Happy collecting!
