A week after the National drew enormous crowds and reminded everyone just how healthy the hobby feels, it’s worth revisiting a very different moment in time. In April 1993, Baseball Cards Magazine devoted three pages to a simple question: “Where Have All the People Gone?” Dealers, promoters, and collectors worried that too many shows, too much product, and a weakening economy had taken the excitement out of the hobby. More than thirty years later, it’s a fascinating reminder that collecting has always been cyclical, and that today’s headlines often become tomorrow’s history.

Happy collecting!
