Sure, I could write a short novel on 1971 Topps Baseball, the bold black borders, the condition sensitivity, the stars, the airbrushing, but why try to recreate what’s already been said by someone who was actually there? Tol Broome was there as a nine-year-old kid in 1971, and in the August 1992 issue of Baseball Cards Magazine, he captured exactly what it felt like. Enjoy “1971 – The Year The Cards Went Black.”
