This fantastic 12-by-18-inch Chicago Bears advertising broadside was offered alongside a November 29, 1928, Bears vs. Cardinals game program in Mastro’s August 2006 Sports Auction.

The broadside advertised season tickets for the Bears’ 1928 campaign at Wrigley Field, with ten games for $20. Tickets could be purchased at The Hub, located at 235 South State Street in Chicago. It certainly looks like getting Bears tickets at Wrigley Field in 1928 was a lot easier than getting them at Soldier Field today.
An interesting detail is that the schedule specifically highlights two opposing players: Bruce Caldwell (who played just one NFL season) of the New York Giants and Benny Friedman (an eventual Pro Football Hall of Famer) of the Detroit Wolverines.
The Bears shut out Caldwell’s Giants 13–0 on October 14 but weren’t as fortunate against Friedman’s Wolverines, losing 6–0 on October 28. Detroit also defeated Chicago 14–7 in their November 25 rematch. You can check out the rest of the Bears’ 1928 results on Pro Football Reference.
I’ve always thought vintage advertising broadsides like this make fantastic display pieces. Between the artwork, typography, and historical details, this one would look incredible framed in a football collector’s office.
