I’m continuing my series of posts defining checklist groups or eras in the post-war sports card market. I previously documented the Golden Era of Topps Baseball Checklists and the Retro Classic Sports Card Checklists. I’m calling this group of cards the Post-War OG Sports Card Checklists; post-war because I know of at least the N173 Old Judge Cabinet Card checklist in the pre-war market, and there are probably others. Specifically, this group includes the 1956 Topps baseball, 1956 Topps Football, 1957 Topps Baseball, and 1957 Topps Football checklists.
All 13 checklists in this group have a similar look and feel, and all are unnumbered. However, I think collectors should include them if they want to say they have complete sets of 1956 or 1957 Topps baseball/football cards.
Here are a few more details about the baseball and football card checklists.
1956 Topps Baseball Checklist 1/3

The 1956 Topps Baseball Checklist 1/3 has a total PSA-graded population of 1189 with zero PSA 10s, nine PSA 9s, and 105 PSA 8 examples.
The last PSA 9 sale in PSA Card’s APR was for $2748 back in September 2020. And the last PSA 8 sale was for $487 in May 2022 (old flip); PSA 8s were going for closer to $600 in mid.-2020.
1956 Topps Baseball Checklist 2/4

The 1956 Topps Baseball Checklist 2/4 has a total PSA-graded population of 1159 with zero PSA 10s, 14 PSA 9s, and 103 PSA 8 examples.
The last PSA 9 sale in PSA Card’s APR was for $1920 in July 2021. And the last PSA 8 sale was for $609 in October 2022. In the market surge in 2021, PSA 8s sold for between $1.5 and $2k.
1956 Topps Football Checklist 1-120

The 1956 Topps Football Checklist 2/4 has a total PSA-graded population of 328 with zero PSA 10s, zero PSA 9s, and 24 PSA 8 examples.
The last PSA 8 sale in PSA Card’s APR was $930 in June 2020. Back in August 2017, there was a reported sale of a PSA 8 for $2600.
1957 Topps Baseball Checklists

Because of the different Bazooka and Blony variations, there are eight different 1957 Topps Baseball checklists. Bazooka backs are generally scarcer than Blony backs, and the checklists get more expensive as the series goes up. There aren’t any PSA 10 examples amongst any of the checklists, and for PSA 9s, Checklist 1/2 Bazooka has a single sample, and Checklist 1/2 Big Blony has two; that’s it for PSA 9s.

The 1957 Topps Baseball set is incredibly popular, and competition on the PSA set registry is fierce, so you probably aren’t going to see a PSA 8 checklist sell for under $1400 anymore. In December 2020, a PSA 1/2 Big Blony checklist sold for $3480, and in July 2021, a PSA 4/5 Bazooka sold for $4200.

Checklist | Total Population | PSA 8 Population |
1957 Topps Baseball Checklist 1/2 Bazooka | 366 | 20 |
1957 Topps Baseball Checklist 1/2 Big Blony | 326 | 23 |
1957 Topps Baseball Checklist 2/3 Bazooka | 136 | 6 |
1957 Topps Baseball Checklist 2/3 Big Blony | 165 | 4 |
1957 Topps Baseball Checklist 3/4 Bazooka | 159 | 3 |
1957 Topps Baseball Checklist 3/4 Twin Blony | 226 | 8 |
1957 Topps Baseball Checklist 4/5 Bazooka | 118 | 4 |
1957 Topps Baseball Checklist 4/5 Twin Blony | 135 | 3 |
1957 Topps Football Checklist 1-154 Bazooka
I wrote a dedicated article about the 1957 Topps Football checklists in March 2022; they are incredibly pricey and hard to find unmarked.
The 1957 Topps Football Checklist Bazooka has a total PSA-graded population of 161 with zero PSA 10s, zero PSA 9s, and just 3 PSA 8 examples. Eighty-four cards in the population have qualifiers.

PWCC sold a PSA 8 for $10k in April 2014. The last PSA 7 sale in PSA Card’s APR was $7978 in October 2018.
1957 Topps Football Checklist 1-154 Twin Blony
The 1957 Topps Football Checklist Twin Blony has a total PSA-graded population of 141 with zero PSA 10s, zero PSA 9s, and zero PSA 8 examples. There are 4 PSA 7s, and 74 cards in the population have qualifiers.

Godin sold a PSA 7 Twin Blony checklist for $6137 in October 2018.
