The 20 cards of baseball players, past and present, from Oklahoma, were printed on the back cover of the Summer 1959 Issue of Oklahoma Today magazine.

Oklahoma Today Magazine – Summer 1959 – Front Cover

The front of the cards feature black and white player images against color backgrounds, of which eight are green, eight are gold, and four are light blue, within a thin black border. Each card was supposed to be cut out by hand, with the printed perforation lines guiding the collector. Under the player’s photo is their name in red capital letters within a white panel.

The backs are unnumbered and show the player’s name, position, team, and league.

1959 Oklahoma Today Major Leaguers Examples & Sales

The 36-page publication pictured above was sold by REA for $420 in the spring of 2018. Interestingly, Huggins & Scott sold another copy for $1,138 a few months later in the fall of 2018. These days, they’re not particularly common, but a few have sold on eBay, one in April 2022 for $2,000 and another, the same month, for $945. More recently, one was sold on eBay in March 2024 for $1,300.

Individually, PSA has graded 383 cards from this set (79 of those being Mickey Mantle’s card), including three full sheets (I’d love to see one!).
