1969 Converse Staff Specs

Year: 1969

Title: Converse Staff

Size: 2 1/4″ by 2 3/4″

Number in Set: 9 on a Staff Shoe Box, 10 on an Athletic Shoe Box, and 11 different between the two.

1969 Converse Staff Overview

Converse (now a subsidiary of Nike) printed these cards on boxes of their Staff & Athletic shoe boxes. The front of each card uses blue ink on a white background and features a drawn portrait, a short bio, and a basketball tip. The backs are blank and unnumbered.

1969 Converse Staff Examples And Sales

Huggins and Scott Auctions sold the shoebox pictured below (which included size 5.5 shoes) and says “Staff Shoe” on the lid, for $461 in 2016. Notice that it only features nine cards.

A year earlier (November 2015), Huggins & Scott sold the following box for $1,673. Notice that this box features ten cards, but has a different lid and product code (1-9365 for MENS BLACK OX vs. 2-9364 for BOYS WHITE OX on the Staff box)

From what I can see:

  • Both boxes show Gib Ford, Bunny Levvit, Bob Davies, Joe Dean, Bob Houbregs, and John Norlander,
  • The Staff box shows Bob Boyd
  • The Athletic box shows Stu Inman and Earl Lloyd

In terms of more modern prices, the following Staff box is available on eBay today (September 2025) for $540. This one has a product code of 1-9364 for MENS WHITE OX.

1969 Converse Staff Key Cards

Most families didn’t save these shoeboxes, so most were thrown out, making the cards pretty rare. However, all cards are present when a box appears, so no single card appears scarcer than any other.
