1959 Carling Black Label Beer Cleveland Browns Overview
Some people refer to the 1959 Carling Black Label Beer Cleveland Browns set as posters since they are so large. The set features ten black and white posed action shots of members of the Cleveland Browns. Below the image, in the white border, are the words PREMIUM QUALITY; beneath that, it says CARLING BLACK LABEL BEER and THE CLEVELAND BROWNS. The small print on the bottom are the locations of the Carling Brewing Company, Cleveland, Ohio; Atlanta, Ga; etc., and the card’s number in the lower right corner. The backs are blank.

Sets are available on eBay from time to time for around $300-600, depending on condition. And none of the cards appear to be any rarer than another. But be careful, reprint sets are floating around, and they’re nearly as common as the originals. Beckett says, “This set was reprinted in the late 1980’s; the reprints are on slightly thicker cardboard stock and typically show the Henry M. Barr stamp on the back.”
