1973 Mac’s Milk Stickers Overview

30, unnumbered, 3” diameter discs make up the 1973 Mac’s Milk set, which doesn’t include any identifying information that Mac’s Milk was the set’s sponsor. But it’s known that they were issued through the National Hockey League Players Association at Mac’s Milk convenience stores in Canada.

Cardboard on Ice wrote, “A sticker came individually sealed in cello-like packages so you could not see through the wrapper and cherry pick your favorite player.” However, Classic Auctions sold a lot of packs and the owner did mark them to their contents. And in other auctions Classic wrote, “Originally issued in carbon-lined 4” x 4” paper “envelopes” that resemble tea bags – with a complete set comprised of 30.” So I think the packs were see-through, with a little effort.

The fronts of the discs feature a caricature-like drawing of the player with their name printed on the bottom along the round border. The NHL Players Association logo is also shown, which presumably is why team logos are not present on the disc.

The discs are cloth stickers with peel-off blank backs.

The set’s relatively affordable. Heritge sold a set of 30, with two graded, for $468 in November 2023, but with a little patience, you should be able to get one for a little less. For example, Classic Auctions sold this raw set for $265 in June 2019.
