Shown here is the original artwork used for Lou Creekmur’s card in the 1953 Bowman Football set (#34) that was offered alongside an example of the finished card in Mastro’s August 2001 Premier Catalog Auction.
The hand-painted piece measures approximately 3-1/8″ by 4-3/4″, noticeably larger than the finished card, and features the rich color and detail that made Bowman’s early football issues so visually appealing (true pieces of art).
The reverse was described as having production-related pencil markings and adhesive remnants.
Original artworks like these are unique pieces of football card history (true one of ones), and this one’s of a Pro Football Hall of Famer!
