1962 Bazooka Progressive Proof Plates Featuring Mickey Mantle

In Ron Oser Enterprises’ April 2000 auction catalog, a fascinating 1962 Bazooka item was offered, a collection of four progressive proof plates used to print the panel featuring Art Mahaffey, Mickey Mantle, and Dick Stuart. Unfortunately, they only printed this single photo.

Each metallic plate measured roughly 3 1/8″ x 6″ and represented a different stage in the color printing process. The lot description was brief, just that single photo and a short note that all plates were in great condition. Unfortunately, I haven’t been able to find a record of what they sold for, or any other examples of 1962 Bazooka printing plates surfacing since.

While 1962 Bazooka panels themselves are scarce but collectible, finding actual production materials like these plates is almost unheard of.

Happy Collecting

P.S. Here’s an example of a hand-cut panel and complete box featuing Mahaffey, Mantle, and Stuart, both sold by REA. The PSA 6-graded panel sold for $2,640 and the PSA 4-graded complete box sold for $6,900 in the Summer of 2019.
