Need a sign to put up above your home bar? How about this late ’30s gigantic Coca-Cola advertisement featuring Ty Cobb and Red Grange?

When Mastro sold this piece in September 2000, they described the piece as follows:
If you are looking for a larger Coca-Cola advertising sign, this one just might fulfill your expectations. “Have A Coke” reads the signs at the ends of this 80″ monster. The die-cut advertisement, produced in the late 1930’s, portrays artwork images of Ty Cobb, Red Grange, Helene Madison, Don Budge, Man O” War and Colonial Lady M. in a dazzling display of color and art. Beautifully enclosed in a frame (86″ x 21″), the Coca-Cola Company outdid itself with this incredible piece. There are a few mounting holes and nicks, a stain at the top of Cobb’s border, but overall this is an arresting display, grading Vg/Ex to Ex, with an extremely strong visual effect.
In December 2001, Lelands sold what may be the exact same piece for $1,232.57, but they dated it to the 1940s. They also pointed out that the piece was actually two that hooked into one another, noting that there was a third in the set, but I’m unsure where that would have gone. Let me know if you have those details in the comments down below.

If the photo of Cobb looks familiar, that’s because Coke reused it in 1947 for a store display sign that was used in a series of promo advertisements. REA sold this example in 2015 for $3,300.

Happy collecting!
