1969 Greiner Tires Pittsburgh Pirates Overview
While one of the scarcer Pirates regional sets of the late 1960s, the eight-card 1969 Greiner Tires Pittsburgh Pirates cards aren’t that tough to track down and tend to be found on eBay and at major auction houses in complete set form.
The cards are printed on a heavy stock and feature black-and-white player portraits within a white border. Beneath the photo is a note from Greiner Tire Service wishing the player and the Pirates “Good Luck.” The sponsor’s name, address, and phone number are under the note within the card’s margins.
The backs of the cards are blank and unnumbered.
PSA has graded 46 1969 Greiner Tires Pittsburgh Pirates Cards; most are in the 3/4/5/6 range. The most graded player is Roberto Clemente, with 24. SGC has graded 35 cards, including 12 Clemente’s; their grades are slightly higher, mainly in the 5/6/7/8 range.
1969 Greiner Tires Pittsburgh Pirates Significant Sales
Robert Edward Auctions sold the following complete SGC-Graded set for $660 in August 2022.
Huggins and Scott sold a raw photo set for $295.20 in March 2011 and an SGC-Graded set for $250 in February 2016. Memory Lane Inc. sold an SGC-Graded set for $240 in January 2017. Mile High Card Co. sold a complete “All SGC Graded” set for $433 in November 2016; it included an SGC MINT 9 of Willie Stargell.
Heritage sold the following raw set for $312 in July 2021.
The most recent sale I found was for a raw set on eBay that sold for $255 in November 2023.
