Specs

Year: 1972

Title: Partridge Meats Reds

Size: 3-3/4” by 5-1/2”

Number in Set: 8

Overview

Similar to the 1968 – 1970 Partridge Meats Reds set, the 1972 release (which may have been a 1971 – 1972 release) was issued for player autograph appearances from the hot dog brand at Kroger stores around Cincinnati Ohio.

The design was modified slightly, with the black and white photo at the center standing out more from the white background and the images being versions of team-issued portraits without the team logo on player caps. Additionally, the advertisement along the bottom is different with black capital letters beneath the photo saying “PHOTO COURTESY OF” in black text, and then the Partridge logo and the words “Partridge meats” in red. The cards are unnumbered, and the backs are blank.

In February 2010, a previously unknown Joe Morgan card was discovered and auctioned off on eBay. The Standard Catalog had set the checklist for the set at seven cards for decades. Despite being stained and creased, the Morgan sold for just over $450.

Key Cards

The discovery of a single Joe Morgan card makes it the set’s key card. Price guides released before that discovery list the set’s key card as Tony Perez.
