Specs

Year: 1971

Title: Jack in the Box California Angels

Size: 4’’ x 2-1/2″

Number in Set: 10

Overview

Not a lot is known about this 10-card set. The horizontal cards, printed on a manilla/tan paper stock with black ink, feature a player portrait on the left with the player’s name, team, position, and Jack in the Box logo on the right side. They look a lot like business cards.

The cards are unnumbered, and the backs are blank.

However, unlike the legitimate 1969 Jack in the Box California Angles set, this one is believed to be an unauthorized collector’s issue lacking an official connection to the team or fast food chain. Collector’s issues were usually sold as a set within shops or via mail order. If you have any more insight into this set, please e-mail me. I heard they may have been a product of the photographer.

You should be able to pick up a raw set for under $100 with a bit of patience; Clean Sweep Auctions sold a raw set for $105 in April 2023.

Also, a seller on eBay has a listing for nine cards (missing Conligiaro) for $99 or individual cards for $15 each as of early June 2023.
