Title: York Peanut Butter Yellow Backs
Size: 2 1/2″ x 2 1/2″
Number in Set: 42
Overview
The 1961 York Peanut Butter Yellow Backs set is a pretty popular food release that features players from the Montreal Canadiens and Toronto Maple Leafs. The 42 octagonal-shaped cards were found under the lids of York Peanut Butter or attached to packages of York Salted Nuts. Depending on the jar size, three to six cards would be present.
The cards feature a photo of the player with a colorful background on the front, and the backs are yellow (of course) with black text. The backs feature typical biographical information, lifetime records, a note from the sponsor that collectors who run across the cards could find more attached to York Peanut Butter and York Salted Nuts packages, and an offer to buy an album to save the cards in for 25 cents. The album was available as a send-in offer or at grocery stores.

There was also an “Album Promo” so collectors could order the album and the cards they didn’t have for one cent a piece.
