Return to the Oddball Archive Index

Specs

Year: 1952

Title: Parkhurst

Size: 2″ by 2 1/2″

Number in Set: 100

Overview

The 1952 Parkhurst set was produced in partnership with Frostade (a competitor to Kool-Aid) and features 100 cards from the three Canadian International League Teams (AAA caliber); the Toronto Maple Leafs (1-26), Montreal Royals (49-76), and Ottawa Athletics (77-100). The set also has a few cards featuring playing tips and quizzes (27-48).

If you didn’t know, the Maple Leafs were affiliated with the St. Louis Browns, the Royals were affiliated with the Brooklyn Dodgers, and the Athletics were affiliated with Philadelphia A’s.

The front of the cards feature a black-and-white player photo within a white border.

The red-inked, numbered backs share basic player information along the top, followed by a pretty long advertisement for Frostade, including the “chance to get a smart new plastic six-shooter!”

As the proprietor of the Unopened Archive, I thought I should also share a few of images of the cardboard “wrappers” that housed the 1952 Parkhurst cards.
